Baltic clams clearly! Only joking. They don’t have a brain like vertebrates, so they are probably not the most intelligent of this group!

Hi! Naval shipworms are good at what they do, but wouldn’t be able to solve any tricky problems? I guess the Scottish Crossbill or Orkney Vole? But neither of them can eat wood….

I’d have to agree with naval shipworm on this one – it must be the vole. However, in terms of complexity of behaviour and life cycle, TWF is right up there!

That’s a very difficult question to answer, I think! All of the animals are intelligent to some degree.

We’d like to think the abyssal grenadier is pretty smart – being able to find food, mates, and avoid being eaten in complete darkness is not easy!

None of us know the answer to your question because we haven’t done comparative studies on these species. All I can say is that each species is fully adapted to their own environment, so at doing whatever it is that they do, they are all the best.

Definitely not me! I have almost no neurons,- just enough to open and close my shell. I’d guess either Orkney Vole or Scottish Crossbill…

Common Starfish answered on 13 Nov 2017:

Not me! Anyway, being intelligent is overrated! No need to do advanced mathematics if you are a starfish like me … much better to be able re-grow the nerves in your arms if a seagull pecks off all your arms!

      Orkney Vole wins again!

      Must be the Crossbill!
