      That’s a good question we don’t really know the answer to. We know that crossbills live in pine woods, but why the crossbills in Scotland have become different is still not clear. By looking at the genome of the Scottish crossbill we can identify the genes that are very different and make it unique, and from that we may be able to unravel the puzzle of what makes a Scottish crossbill Scottish
